As most of you know, on Monday, Mayor Ron Nirenberg expanded his emergency order for the city of San Antonio, to include a ‘stay at home’ order through April 9th. Given this decision and that we continue to see community spread with COVID-19, EKHLA will remain closed through April 24. We are holding out hope that we may return to the building this school year, but we have to continually weigh the health and safety of our students and families and the greater community. Our new normal is that things move quickly, and we must continually adjust to these changing circumstances.
For the next few weeks, we will continue to provide instruction through distance learning. The Texas Education Agency has stated that the days that students are out of the building will not have to be made up as long as continuity of education remains in place. Our dedicated teachers and campus administrators will continue to work with students and families on providing meaningful and streamlined instruction that will continue to prepare the students for next year and the years beyond. We remain dedicated to educating children, regardless of the circumstances. Our teachers have worked hard to adapt to this new way of teaching, and I know you all have had to adjust as well. Given that the distance learning is moving past the initial two weeks, if your family would benefit from an additional device at home to support more than one learner, please email [email protected] to arrange checking out a chromebook and charger.
We are in unfamiliar territory and recognize this is challenging for everyone involved. Please know, EKHLA is here for you and a partner in your child's education.
Thank you all for your continued support,
Kathryn Davis Cohen
